Itinerary

The Hanging Church

Also known as the Suspended Church, it was built atop the southern gate of the Roman Fortress. Its unique design features a roof shaped like Noah’s Ark. From the 7th to the 13th centuries, it served as the residence of the Coptic Patriarch, making it a cornerstone of Coptic history.

Ben Ezra Synagogue

Dating back to the 9th century, this synagogue was built within the shell of a 4th-century Christian Church. It is historically significant as the site where the prophet Jeremiah gathered the Jewish community following the destruction of Jerusalem’s Temple. Restored by Abraham Ben Ezra in the 12th century, it unveils the rich heritage of North African Jews from the 11th to 13th centuries.

Lunch Break

Enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant, savoring traditional Egyptian cuisine.

Abu Serga Church

Believed to be built on the very spot where the Holy Family—Mary, Joseph, and Jesus—rested during their journey in Egypt, this church holds immense historical and spiritual significance. It has also been the site of the ordination of many Coptic Patriarchs

Virgin Mary Church

Located in Haret Zuweila, this is one of the oldest Coptic churches in Cairo. Though some inscriptions date to the 12th century, the church was initially established in the 10th century. It served as the seat of the Orthodox Pope of Alexandria from 1400 AD to 1520 AD.
